How Your Psychological Blind Spots Keep You Stuck in Life

May 08, 2021

Sometimes, life doesn’t seem to make any sense. Albert Einstein once said “insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” Here’s the funny thing. We will say that line about someone else, have a good chuckle, and then DO THE SAME THING OURSELVES! This time, it’s not that funny, is it? I know. I’ve done it myself.

I will be sharing 3 examples of seemingly paradoxical behaviour from people who have been in my private practice. (Of course, I have changed the names and some of the demographics to respect their confidentiality).

“I Wish Trump Could Die”

May 08, 2021

A reader commented on the photo here as follows: I wish he (Trump) could die.

I don’t.

Sure, he richly deserves punishment, but I care far more about the fate of this country than I do about the justice that is due to one person, albeit a walking force for pure evil.

The Trump phenomenon needs to be thoroughly repudiated.  This nation’s people need to understand that racism, lies, greed, selfishness, criminality, cruelty, and revenge are not valid ways of behaving–for anyone–and certainly the President of the United States.

Is this about to happen?  There’s no way to ...

Brazil’s Bolsonaro Faces Criminal Investigation, Possible Impeachment Over COVID Response

May 08, 2021

From the PBS News Hour: Brazil formalized a criminal investigation last week into President Jair Bolsonaro’s response to the pandemic. It could lead to his impeachment. The country just passed 400,000 total fatalities so far, with no significant slowdown in sight.

Humankind doesn’t seem to be learning that would-be fascists have one thing in common: a total indifference to the suffering of others.  Here in the U.S., as our death toll approaches 600,000, we learned not too long ago our Bolsonaro, Donald Trump, ruining America’s pandemic with a mixture of lies, incompetence, and revenge against political enemies, all ...

Marvel Movies

Sam Wilson is Captain America -- that much is clear after the Falcon and the Winter Soldier finale. The heroes know it, the villains know it, and the government knows it. Anthony Mackie is now Captain America in the real world as well. As much as we love Chris Evans’s Steve Rogers, there’s no going back now.

I’ve already said that Falcon is mandatory watching to understand the complexities of Sam accepting the shield. Marvel has no choice but to show us what happens next, and Captain America 4 is in the works. Falconshowrunner and head-writer Malcolm Spellman ...

Review: The role-playing game’s afoot in charming black comedy Murder Bury Win

Three friends get more than they bargained for when they think they are about to hit the gaming big-time in Murder Bury Win, a charming black comedy that proved to be a fan favorite at last year's Austin Film Festival. Apple brass discussed disclosing 128-million iPhone hack, then decided not to

In September 2015, Apple managers had a dilemma on their hands: should, or should they not, notify 128 million iPhone users of what remains the worst mass iOS compromise on record? Ultimately, all evidence shows, they chose to keep quiet.

The mass hack first came to light when researchers uncovered 40 malicious App Store apps, a number that mushroomed to 4,000 as more researchers poked around. The apps contained code that made iPhones and iPads part of a botnet that stole potentially sensitive user information.

128 million infected.

An email entered into courtthis ...

California condors are one of the most endangered bird species in the United States. They're considered "Critically Endangered," which is one step away from them being extinct in the wild. They have an incredibly small range that covers small sections of California, Arizona, and Utah, and there are only around 500 of the birds still alive, both in the wild and in captivity. There are so few of the condors left that you'd be hard-pressed to find even a single one of them, but one woman in Tehachapi, California managed to find over a dozen, and she didn't even ...
