Keeping track of hydrogen for perovskite performance

Scientists in the United States discovered that hydrogen plays a leading role in the formation of defects in a perovskite film, which limit their performance as PV devices. In silicon PV, understanding the role played by hydrogen in several of the long-term degradation mechanismsknown to affect PV cells is one of the biggest challenges faced by researchers working to get even further performance gains from what ...

It has been a difficult period for all people as the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) can’t just be totally eliminated as yet.

There are quite a number of musicians, for instance, who give online performances, but these may not be a truly viable alternative to playing before a live audience. Still Bisaya Orig music artists have been producing new music and it is that time of year that we acknowledge outstanding works through the Cebu Siloy Music Awards which we began in ...

Wenceslao: Visit

April 30, 2021

I went to Danao City the other day and was reminded once again that this is no longer the suburban place that I used to pass by when I was younger on my way to the birthplaces of my parents in the Camotes group of islands. Danao port is where the boats going to the islands are moored. In the old days, passengers had two options in going to the islands. The other was to ride on the bigger but slower banca at the Tulay Wharf in Mandaue City.

While the land trip to Danao was longer, the sea ...

Nalzaro: Can we trust history?

April 30, 2021

“Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it,” George Santayana (1863-1952), philosopher, poet and novelist, once said.

Can we ever know the whole truth about what really happened in the past? Can history ever be objective or even accurate? If we cannot defend our history, can we even fully understand where we are going and can century-old disputes that rely on particular versions of history ever be resolved? Can we actually trust history?

Many of us get our history from school text books. But how balanced are they? How do historians know about the past? ...

Khok: Try it

April 30, 2021

After following a handful of travel and food vloggers, and drooling over their recipes, I finally decided to follow some of the viands they cooked.

Gracing this week’s cooking challenge are “Panlasang Pinoy,” which I follow and admire, and newly surveyed “Kusina ni Abyang,” “Little Chef Asia” and “Pinoy ni Oyoboy.”

The recipe I fixed last night was for tortang corned beef or savory corned beef cakes.

Corned beef, being the building block of this dish, must be of good quality. Among the affordable brands, Holiday Carne Norte offers a likable taste.

However, pick the brand you prefer. There ...

Mendoza: Options for PBA reopening

It becomes favoritism only if the vaccine is courtesy of the government.

That’d mean the PBA populace—players, coaches, managers and other personnel—are being given preferential treatment to the detriment of the public’s interest.

In the first place, the PBA is not generally known to be in the priority vaccine list of seniors and comorbidities, who are society’s co-equal in ...
