Tweets That Sum Up The Misery That Is The Modern Job Application Process

April 24, 2021

There is only so much BS a human being can possibly take. And this level of tolerance rapidly decreases as soon as we start talking about job applications. From one hell of a job description to position requirements that make zero sense, these are just the tip of the iceberg of the dangerous and severe diagnosis known as chronic job search exhaustion.

Maybe it's time to re-evaluate that "years of experience = skill level".

If you don’t get hired for an unpaid internship it literally makes no difference. Just show up and start working. What are they gonna do, pay you?

LinkedIn has stories lol what am I supposed to do there, beg for job?

Can we make a reality show where we make baby boomers try applying to jobs for the first time in 30 years using their own advice, and see how quickly they have a mental breakdown?

Tomorrow Just wake up, wear your formal clothes, go to any company and start working. If they call the police, go to the police station and start working there too.

Single-handedly managed the successful upgrade and deployment of new environmental illumination system with zero cost overruns and zero safety incidents.

Looking for a caterpillar. Must have 5 years experience as a butterfly and at least a master's degree. This will be an unpaid position.

Hey guys, just a thought; but how about instead of canceling celebrities for comments they made years ago, we start boycotting companies that want bachelors degrees and 3-5 years of experience for $13 an hour entry level jobs?

One of life’s biggest mysteries is why job applications ask you to upload a resume and manually enter the exact same information on the uploaded resume

No one should have to take time off work to find out the job they are interviewing for pays significantly less than the one they already have.

Please stop assuming all employment gaps on resumes are bad. Life happens. Battling cancer. Raising children. Taking care of a dying parent. Stop relying on algorithms to tell you who people are, what they have been through, and all they are capable of.

Discuss your salaries. Find the discrepancies. Demand more. The workers are on the same team.

Employers asking for references is so stupid and pointless like...why don’t YOU give me 3 references! Go ahead! Let me call 3 former employees and see if y’all treated them well or like shit, then we’ll talk!

HR: lmao here's some ramen cups and permission to wear jeans on Friday.

Interviewer: Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Me: In your chair, but asking better questions.

One more speech about how you just have to keep hustling and taking shit and working 80 hour weeks from a dude who got into Yale as a legacy and became a startup CEO of a shitty app company with no privacy security might make me vomit.

Yesterday I was walking to an interview. There was a starving dog on the road. I stopped to feed him & missed the interview. The next day I got an invite to the interview. I was surprised. The interviewer came in. It was the dog.

Beg for it!

Damn everyone’s leaving that’s nuts.

Don't you just hate it when you arrive to a job interview and realize you have forgotten to bring your will to live?

One time I Applied to work as a busboy at Cheesecake Factory they made me take a personality test and 2 IQ type tests and then said I wasn’t what the Cheesecake Factory was looking for. It’s not the CIA man it’s where parents take their kids to tell them they’re getting divorced

Editorial: Are you smarter than an anti-vaxxer?

April 24, 2021

OBVIOUSLY, that is no way to start a conversation with someone who isn’t yet convinced he or she ought to get vaccinated against the virus that causes Covid-19. Approach the conversation that way and you may as well say goodbye to any hopes you had of persuading someone to get vaccinated.

So how do we persuade someone, presumably someone we care about, to get vaccinated if they still have their doubts? Begin by opening yourself to the possibility that they may be in your immediate family, clan or circle of friends. They’re out there. Some may be concealing their ...

Tabada: Guardians

April 24, 2021

We keep house in Silang for one male human, a sire (male dog that has fathered puppies), three dams (two Aspin [Asong Pinoy] mothers who gave birth to their first litter and a Puspin [Pusang Pinoy] on her sixth litter, we guess), a young cat, five female puppies, and four female kittens.

And the bitch: Me.

After I recently grilled a prospective guardian, the husband described the experience: terrifying.

He was probably describing the third degree our friend, in making his request to adopt a puppy, did not expect to be subjected to.

I probed with the sensitivity of ...

Cabaero: Breakthrough

April 24, 2021

THE rise in the numbers of new infection cases and deaths for weeks now have left many people feeling hopeless and broken.

There were sick people dying in tents, homes, or, in at least one case, inside his car while waiting to be accepted in hospitals for treatment for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19). Infection cases reached from 8,000 to 15,000 per day, bringing the total number of infection cases in the country close to one million.

The lockdowns at Metro Manila and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal left thousands without jobs and some businesses closed. Government ...

Malilong: Of dogs, cats and a lizard

April 24, 2021

WHEN the pandemic struck, one of the things I really prayed hard for was to stay uninfected by, and eventually immunized against, the coronavirus that causes the Covid-19 disease. God heard my prayer; I had my first jab last Monday. I would like to believe that I made it easier for Him to grant my wish by staying at home and, on the few occasions that I ventured out, by wearing a mask and observing physical distancing.

Time moves slowly while you anxiously wait for hoped-for deliverance. Because human interaction was limited, I tried other means to keep myself ...

April 24, 2021

FINALLY. They’re here. The vaccines that we’ve all been pining for are finally here. Some fortunate ones got their jabs right before the city’s precious vaccine stash temporarily ran out. But worry not. More vaccines are coming.

Individuals can register at https://mics.cebucity.gov.ph/vims/. Private companies can register at http://www.projectbalikbuhay.com/.

And yet, vaccine hesitancy persists even among the most vulnerable—those 60 and above. There’s a very low risk of adverse reaction from vaccination but a very high risk of death in case of Covid-19 infection. Please get your jabs.

From the rest of the vaccine hesitant population—I’m hearing all kinds of ...

Briones: Vaccination hitch

April 24, 2021

I THOUGHT the problem the Cebu City Government faced when it started the vaccine rollout for senior citizens on Monday, April 19, 2021, was that there weren’t enough takers.

That may have been true in the beginning.

If I remember correctly, less than 800 showed up at the two vaccination sites at the University of Cebu Banilad campus and the Robinsons Galleria on the first day.

Cebu City is home to over 80,000 senior citizens, but only close to 15,000 registered to be vaccinated. That’s less than 20 percent who signed up to receive the first dose of the ...
